Las negociaciones internacionales sobre el clima que se llevaron a cabo en Cancún, México, han concluido, y a pesar de las fatídicas predicciones que dominaron las semanas y los meses previos a dicha reunión, se debe considerar que la xvi Conferencia de las Partes (cop-16) de la Convención Marco de Naciones Unidas sobre Cambio Climático (Cmnucc) fue un éxito. Representa un modesto avance.

The overall objective of the present assignment is to support the Government of Malawi in conceiving  viable PPP models for financially sustainable irrigation development and management in general and carry out specific options analysis for starting a PPP process for the proposed Shire Valley Irrigation Project, SVIP. This will build on the generic PPP framework that has recently been developed by the Privatization Commission and translated into specific sector arrangements; also with support from PPIAF.

The private partner would operate and manage and further develop the infrastructure to ensure (1) the area is fully irrigated within six (6) years of the date of signature of the contract; and (2) that at least 25% of the irrigated land is available for small farmers, who should be integrated into the production chain of the commercial producers that would occupy the remainder of the land. The private partner will be remunerated for the sale of water (through user tariffs) and a capacity payment by the government.

O Projeto Público de Irrigação Pontal está localizado no Município de Petrolina, na região semiárida do Estado de Pernambuco, no nordeste do Brasil (Vale do rio São Francisco). A região de Petrolina atualmente exporta mais de US$ 100 milhões em frutas/ano, produzidas graças à irrigação. A região possui uma infraestrutura logística já estabelecida para exportação, incluindo portos fluviais e estradas em boas condições, bem como um aeroporto internacional, localizado a aproximadamente 40 km do Projeto Pontal, que já administra aviões de carga que exportam frutas para outros continentes.

 The 25-year, co-financed, build, operate and transfer (BOT) Chavimochic irrigation concession involves improving irrigation in 78,310ha in the northeastern La Libertad region through the capture and distribution of the Santa river's water. The water resources will also be used to feed run-of-river power plants with installed capacity of 68.1MW and potable water treatment facilities able to produce around 4m3/s.
