This Law, consisting of 63 articles divided into twelve Chapters and a Glossary, aims at defining the general organization of the electricity sector and the legal regime for electricity supply activities. Having the need to adapt the legal framework of the electricity sector to the current, social, technical and financial dynamics, as well as to the objectives of sustainable development, energy transition consistent with the country's reality and universal access to energy of quality, efficiency and reliability, the country takes advantage of all energy sources, especially renewable ones and reducing the use of fossil sources, such as: existing natural resources, renewable and non-renewable, that allow the production of electrical energy, including solar, wind, hydro, tidal, biomass, geothermal, natural gas and other sources. This Law applies to the production, storage, transport, distribution, marketing and consumption of electricity, including its import and export. The use and exploitation of energy sources for purposes other than the production of electricity is subject to specific legislation.
