Ukraine: Odessa Port

The Government of Ukraine has awarded HPC Ukraina a contract to expand the capacity of the Container Terminal Odessa (CTO), located at the state-owned Odessa Sea Commercial Port (OSCP), the largest seaport in Ukraine and one of the largest on the Black Sea. The total container capacity of all Ukrainian ports is 2,250,000 TEUs; the CTO extension will add another 700,000 TEUs, significantly raising the international transport capacity of the coun - try.

Common Transport Infrastructure: A Quantitative Model and Estimates from the Belt and Road Initiative

This paper presents a framework to analyze the trade, GDP and welfare effects of common transport infrastructure. This is an indispensable first step to assess the value of large-scale projects for the countries that will participate, as a group and individually, and for non-participating countries. Our analysis is based on the framework developed by Caliendo and Parro (2015), which we extend to study the impact of infrastructure investment.3 The underlying framework is a Ricardian model of sectoral linkages, trade in intermediate goods and sectoral heterogeneity in production.

Urban Aerial Cable Cars as Mass Transit Systems: Case studies, technical specifications, and business models

This is the first publication to offer a compendium of objective data on urban aerial transit projects in Latin America and elsewhere. The criteria used for the selection of the case studies were based on such factors as setting (urban), geographic location, technology, and management model. The specific criteria that were used are detailed below:

•All major monocable aerial cable car systems set entirely within urban areas of Central and South America, whether currently in operation or out of service.

Sustainable Development of Inland Waterways Transport in Vietnam

The World Bank has been the main source of Vietnam’s IWT investment finance for more than a decade, but investment needs remain large and future sources of finance will need to be diversified. This report, prepared by a World Bank team, examines the current regulatory framework, institutional structure, and funding framework for IWT. The report suggests measures to strengthen infrastructure, regulatory, management, and the funding framework. Taken together, these measures would improve the enabling environment for the IWT industry and contribute to its development.

Albania Port of Durres

The Port of Durrës is the lifeline of the Albanian economy, opening up the country to international trade and to the 40 million people strong markets of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. The port, built for a different era, is in dire need of modernization and upgrading. The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested €18 and €14 million respectively in the project to finance the new terminal building and the upgrading of two important heavily trafficked quays.

Côte d’Ivoire: Henri Konan Bedié Toll Bridge

Abidjan’s bridges and infrastructure have been under severe strain following Côte d’Ivoire’s decade-long civil conflict, and the city’s acute traffic problems threatened to hinder recovery. The new Henri Konan Bedié toll bridge, which consists of two three-lane carriageways and cuts the journey time between two major districts of Abidjan from one hour to 15 minutes, was designed to put Abidjan back on the path to prosperity and ease citizens’ lives.
