This is an Act of Parliament to provide for the management, conservation, use and control of water resources and for the acquisition and regulation of rights to use water; to provide for the regulations and management of water supply and sewerage services; to repeal the Water Act (Cap. 372) and certain provisions of the Local Government Act; and for related purposes. The Act provides for the regulation of riverine forests, catchment forests, and protection of wells and springs in the forest and supports the user pays principle for water benefits and therefore opens opportunities for catchment forest management and conservation by forest communities and revenue generation through payments for ecosystem services.
