In many countries, informal waste pickers contribute significantly to waste management and resource efficiency by collecting, sorting, trading and sometimes even processing waste materials. These activities also provide an income opportunity for large numbers of poor people. GTZ aims to determine the factors for successful informal sector integration in solid waste management systems in order to design measures for integration of the informal workers in waste management strategies.

As regards PPPs, Quebec established a PPP unit (2004) and passed a law on contracts passed by public entities (Loi sur les contrats des organismes publicsconsolidating a number of principles.

Short summary in English: The Municipality of Miraflores established a public-private partnership with a private consortium for the construction of a 573 underground parking lot, with a projected private investment of approximately $9 million US Dollars, to be completed in a year.  Conflict resolution will be done through a three-person arbitral panel in Lima, Peru. The public sector invested in the studies and offers the real estate.
