Beyond 2021, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced ambitious targets to grow Singapore’s manufacturing sector by 50% of its current value (estimated at around S$106 billion) as part of the Manufacturing 2030 plan. To help achieve this target, JTC has been working closely with our partners to complete several projects over the past year. Since 2020, the following key milestones have been achieved:

The manufacturing sector is a key pillar of Singapore’s economy. It contributes about 21%, or $106 billion of the country’s total Gross Domestic Product, and employs close to half a million workers.

Globally, manufacturing is changing. Through digitalisation and automation, manufacturing in the age of Industry 4.0 will become smarter and more advanced. For Singapore to maintain its competitive edge, it needs to be agile and adapt accordingly.

How Covid-19 brought iShopChangi out of the airport

iShopChangi’s pivot to the non-traveller market also saw the evolution and expansion of its range of products.

Tax and duty-free items such as wines and spirits are perennial favourites among travelling shoppers. With iShopChangi now offering non-travellers these products at over 40% off regular prices all year round, this product category has been a hit among local consumers. In addition, with Covid-19 restrictions on F&B operational hours, more people have been enjoying liquor from the comfort of home. iShopChangi has since seen a seven-fold growth in alcohol sales.

It first began with the need to expand the capacity of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 as well as its open-air carpark. This led to a strategic vision with the conception of Jewel as a gem of a destination, to augment Changi Airport’s position as a leading air hub globally and boost its appeal as a stopover destination for travellers.

Changi Airport Group (Singapore) Pte Ltd (CAG) was formed on 16 June 2009 and the corporatisation of Singapore Changi Airport (IATA: SIN, ICAO: WSSS) followed on 1 July 2009. SP Digital has partnered Changi Airport and Nanyang Technological University to pilot smart meters that monitor energy use. These meters flag sudden spikes - which may be a sign of leaks - and have helped the airport cut operational costs significantly.

OCBC secures $50 million, 15-year naming rights deal as main sponsorship partner of Singapore Sports Hub

The deal, inked on Monday morning, is in excess of $50 million. The 15-year contract will see OCBC own naming rights to the multi-purpose indoor arena, aquatic centre, the National Stadium Club Lounge at the north and south wings of the National Stadium, and the VIP lounge in the Singapore Indoor Stadium. An in-principle agreement for a "significant partnership" has also been reached with OCBC Bank's insurance subsidiary, Great Eastern Holdings.
