PPPs for Public Markets, Malls and Slaughter Houses / Abattoirs

PPPs for Public Markets, Malls and Slaughter Houses / Abattoirs

Municipalities and local authorities often want to refurbish and expand markets and malls or establish proper food and safety arrangements in public markets or abattoirs / slaughterhouses but do not have the finances or capacity to do so.

They are increasingly turning to forms of public-private partnerships (PPPs) to bring in private sector finance and expertise and at the same time improve a public facility. This page looks at some examples:

Public Market - Philippines

Summary of a BOT established in 1991 in Mandaluyong City (UNDP)

Public Market - India

RFP and concession agreement for Renovation, Management and Maintenance of a Public Market on a PPP basis (2012)

PPP for Slaughter house / abattoir - India

RFP and concession agreement for construction operation and transfer of a slaughter house on a PPP basis (2010)
