African Development Bank Guarantees

IDB work to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through financial and technical support for countries working to reduce poverty and inequality, we help improve health and education, and advance infrastructure.  The IDB can guarantee loans made by private financial sources in public sector projects.

The IFC partial credit guarantee (PCG) is a credit enhancement mechanism for debt instruments (bonds and loans). It is an irrevocable promise by IFC to pay principal and/or interest up to a pre-determined amount.

The World Bank Guarantee Program aims to:

• Mobilize private investment (equity and debt) for strategic projects or sector support
• Mitigate key government-related risks to enable financial viability and bankability
• Enhance the credit quality of sovereign and sub-sovereign obligors to achieve acceptable or affordable levels
• Reduce costs and improve financing terms for projects and governments
• Ensure long-term sustainability of projects
