Fuel Supply/Bulk Supply Agreement

Some issues that will need to be considered in a fuel supply agreement are:

  • Quality of the fuel - what happens if it does not meet the specification?

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Energy Purchase Agreements (EPAs)

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) secures the payment stream for a Build-Own Transfer (BOT) or concession project for an independent power plant (IPP). It is between the purchaser "offtaker" (often a state-owned electricity utility) and a privately owned power producer.  The PPA outlined here is not appropriate for electricity sold on the world spot markets (see Deregulated Electricity Markets below). This summary is focused on a base load thermal plant (the issues would differ slightly for mid-range or peaking thermal or hydro plants).

Wind Power Energy

Wind can drive wind turbines to produce electrical power, windmills to produce mechanical power, or wind pumps to pump water, or for drainage. Below are laws and regulations in various jurisdictions as well as sample agreements and additional resources related to wind power projects.

Hydropower

Hydropower or water power energy is created from flowing water. As the world's largest affordable renewable energy source, hydropower currently accounts for about 18 percent of the total world electricity supply.
