Document Summary:

USAID’s 2022–2030 Climate Strategy guides our whole-of-Agency approach to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, help partner countries build resilience to climate change, and improve our operations.

Document Details:

The world is facing mounting environmental threats such as pollution, water scarcity, forest and species loss, sea level rise, and increasingly frequent and intense periods of heat, droughts, floods, and storms. These challenges endanger human health and economic growth, drive conflict and migration, and threaten global stability and U.S. national security.

As countries and communities increasingly prioritize addressing these threats to their development progress, USAID is working side-by-side with our partners to meet their development objectives by building stronger infrastructure, more sustainable economies, and improving natural resource management.

In Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, USAID supported our partners to: prevent 295 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions (equal to taking 25% of the cars in the United States off the road for a year), help communities in more than 60 countries build their resilience to climate impacts, conserve 82 million hectares of tropical rainforests (an area twice the size of California), and mobilize $16.7 billion in outside public and private finance on top of USAID’s work.

The USAID Climate Strategy 2022-2030 and its six high-level targets guides the Agency’s efforts during this decisive decade. Cumulative results on progress toward the targets, as well as updated interim 2024 targets.
