This instrument lays out the Government of Bangladesh policy in allowing private sector investors toestablish Small Power Plants (SPP) on a fast track basis for generation of electricity. The SPPs will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate basis.

Bangladesh - Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development Project (English)

 

This PPP case demonstrates how OBA enabled a government enterprise in charge of sustainable energy investments to form PPPs for rural electrification of low-income households. Solar panel and other sustainable energy technology dealers became PPP operators for installation and long-term maintenance of the equipment while the government focused on quality assurance, convening partnership with GPOBA and other donors as well as coordination of electrical grid planning, making sure that the PPP operators do not work in the place where the grid is expected soon.

Medical Services

Private investment is often used to deliver specialist services e.g. clinics, imaging, consultants, pharmacy or dental, but as always care needs to be taken to ensure that public services remain the core focus of the project.  Facility-based projects involve the project company providing construction, maintenance, and operation of a hospital or clinic , but not delivery of clinical services. In clinical projects, the project company delivers all services, including the supply of infrastructure and clinical services.

Hemodialysis Centers, Dhaka and Chittagong, Bangladesh

The Bangladesh PPP Office requested IFC’s PPP transaction advisory team to help structure a PPP transaction for the construction, operation, and maintenance of dialysis facilities in select hospitals in the country’s biggest cities, namely the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) in Dhaka and Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in Chittagong.
