EPE – Empresa de Pesquisa Energética

The Energy Research Company - EPE aims to provide services to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) in the area of ​​studies and research aimed at subsidizing the planning of the energy sector, covering electricity, oil and natural gas and their derivatives and biofuels. We are a federal public company, 100% dependent on the General Budget of the Union. The company was created by means of a provisional measure converted into law by the National Congress - Law 10.847, of March 15, 2004. And the execution took place in a decree of August 2004.

The EPE was created with the aim of rescuing the constitutional responsibility of the national state to secure the foundations for the sustainable development of the country's energy infrastructure. Since its inception, EPE's activities have been consolidated as a fundamental part of a cycle of activities that begins with the definition of policies and guidelines within the scope of CNPE - National Energy Policy Council and MME. From these definitions materialize the studies and research that will effectively guide the development of the Brazilian energy sector.

Since its inception, EPE has actively participated in major discussions concerning the Brazilian energy sector. The Company acts in the planning of the national energy sector conducting studies and research that culminate in the construction of the set of procedures and actions aimed at the realization of the necessary policy for the energy supply.

Our performance requires broad articulation with various agencies and institutions. In this sense, the EPE undertook, at the sectoral level, close articulation with the Ministry of Mines and Energy - MME, with the regulatory agencies - National Agency of Electric Energy - ANEEL, National Agency of Oil, Gas and Biofuels - ANP and National Agency of Águas - ANA, with the National Electric System Operator - ONS and with the Electric Energy Trading Chamber - CCEE.

EPE Head Office is located in Rio de Janeiro It occupies, today, an area equivalent to two floors of the RB1 Building, at Avenida Rio Branco, 01. The headquarters of the institution is in Brasilia.
