Contract Signed for the Sale of 49% of Oman’s Electricity Transmission Network

On December 15, 2019, Oman’s Nama Holding signed an agreement to sell a 49% stake in Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) to State Grid International Development Ltd. (SGID), a subsidiary of China’s State Grid Corporation.

The deal, part of Oman’s broader privatization program, aims to attract foreign investment and enhance efficiency in the electricity sector. The transaction followed a competitive bidding process and involves approval from the electricity regulator.

OETC operates Oman’s high-voltage transmission network and is responsible for grid balancing. London Economics, Lazard, Herbert Smith Freehills, and EY were among the key advisors. The deal is expected to strengthen Oman’s infrastructure and regulatory environment.
